Objective: For my senior project, I decided to dedicate my time to research not only on a niche idea, but ideas that involved my heritage and who I am. I choose to create an awareness brand. I started planning and researching anything and everything there is to know about Two Spirit individuals and what that truly means.
Resolution: My project is based on the term two-spirit. “Two-spirit” refers to a person who identifies as having both a masculine and a feminine spirit, and is used by some Indigenous people to describe their sexual, gender and/or spiritual identity.” (Fewster 2022). It can cover same-sex desire as well as a wide range of gender diversity, including those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, gender queer, cross-dressers, or have multiple gender identities in Western culture. Two Spirit Creatives is my awareness brand I founded and I created the logo, merchandise, social media presence, and community awareness. The company's mission statement is as follows:
Two-Spirit Creative wants to bring together two-spirit individuals with a passion for creativity. Two-spirit people are of a Native Heritage that classify within both masculine and feminine traits, essentially they enter the gender-fluid realm of gender. Two-Spirit Creative wants to educate people who know little to nothing about two-spirit individuals while simultaneously giving a resource for people who are two-spirit and want to share their stories, experiences, and creativity.
With this statement, the company stays true to promoting Native and Queer Creatives. I took this statement and ran with the company's aesthetics.
